Postdocs

Swapnil Singh

swsingh@iu.edu

Hometown: Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India

Research: I am interested in the structural and conformational characterization of a variety of systems ranging from small molecules (Sugar) to biomolecules (Proteins) using spectroscopic tools like linear infrared and nonlinear 2D IR spectroscopy. To understand the site-specific conformation and dynamics different probes (CD, CN, and CO) are incorporated/utilized to gain knowledge of the selected region.

Interests: I like to travel to explore the culture and cuisine.

Syed Badshah

sbadshah@iu.edu

Hometown: Peshawar, Pakistan

Research: I am interested in understanding the kinetics of the electron transfer in proteins. I utilize biophysical and biochemical methods to better understand the photosynthesis process.

Interesting Fact: I was a Fulbright Scholar at Arizona State University!

Chaitrali Sungupta

csengupt@iu.edu

Hometown: Barrackpore, West Bengal, India

Research: I am interested in developing techniques to characterize proteins and small molecules using 2D IR spectroscopy. My current project focuses on developing kinetic experiments to study the speed of the electron transfer between the copper in plastocyanin and the iron in cytochrome f.

Interests: I love to read and sing! My current favorite book is “Dibaratrir Kabya” by Manik Bandyopadhyay

Graduate Students

Benjamin Shepard

benrshep@iu.edu

Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia

Research: I study the kinetics and regioselectivity of the cytochrome P450 catalytic cycle. Specifically I focus on human isoform 2C9. My current approach focuses on using molecular dynamics simulations to help interpret FTIR results.

Interesting Fact: I attended culinary school and worked as a line cook before the pandemic!
